  • cup Powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp Ghee
  • ¼ tsp Cardamom powder
  • 1 tbsp Sesame seed

Instructions

  • In a pan, first dry roast the chana dal till light brown in color.
  • Transfer to a plate and allow to cool.
  • In the same pan, dry roast the sesame seeds. Transfer to a plate.
  • Then into a blender jar, put all the chana dal and make either super fine or moderately fine powder according to the texture of the peda desired
  • Next take ghee in a pan and turn on heat.
  • Over low heat, add chana dal powder along with powdered sugar.
  • Mix everything gently, but continuously to avoid lumps formation.
  • Soon the whole mixture starts to leave the pan and and ghee will start to ooze
  • Transfer the dough into a plate and allow to cool a bit.
  • When it is still warm, add the roasted sesame seeds and knead a bit.
  • Start making balls (around 1-2 inches) and shape as desired.
  • Serve immediately or keep in an air-tight container to serve later !

Notes

  • Adjust sugar quantity as per the sweetness desired. You may vary from 1/2 cup to 2/3 cup.
  • Sesame seed adds a nice crunch to the peda here.
  • Always dry roast the sesame seeds before adding.
  • The chana dal can be powdered to either superfine or even moderately fine powder texture. My family like the moderately
fine powder one, so I make it like this.
  • Keep an eye while roasting the chana dal, Do not over roast them. Else this will ruin the taste of the pedas.
  • If the dough is not formed easily, then add a little more ghee.
